Training gear that actually gets used

The mats and crash pads belong to the dojo. What a judoka owns is smaller and more personal. The centerpiece here is the Grappler Progress Journal, with training-log pages for the date, the technique, randori notes, one win and one fix. Five minutes on the bench after class turns a blur of throws into a plan for next session. The judo training journal page explains how to use it.

The steel bottle and the Better Training Partners Gi Tote round out the kit. Neither is exciting, and both get used every session.

Solo drilling is the other half of training. Resistance bands let you repeat entries at home, and our uchi-komi bands guide explains what to look for, although we don't stock them yet. Heading to a tournament? Competition day essentials gathers what helps on shiai morning, and grappling training journals covers the same logs for judo and BJJ.

We keep this shelf honest: only gear that supports practice, printed to order. New judo training gear gets added only when it earns a place in the bag. For apparel and everyday pieces, see judo accessories or go back to judo apparel and gear.

Frequently asked questions

What training gear does a beginner judoka need?

A judogi and belt come first, usually through your club. After that, a training journal and a water bottle are simple, useful additions.

Can I train judo at home?

You can drill entries, grip work and conditioning at home. Live throwing belongs in the dojo with a partner and a coach.

Do you sell uchi-komi bands?

Not yet. Our uchi-komi bands page explains what to look for in one in the meantime.
